Stanley Park in August is undeniably magnificent, but when the sun is blazing down, finding a cool spot is paramount—even for its residents. I found the perfect little oasis near Lost Lagoon, where a mother goose and her two fuzzy goslings had wisely staked out a shady retreat.
The heat was intense, but it didn’t slow the youngsters down. They bounced between playful pecking and deep snoozes, driven by a boundless curiosity only baby animals possess. While I quietly watched the scene unfold, I was struck by the mother’s demeanor. She was completely unfazed by my presence. I spent a good fifteen minutes capturing their antics, and she remained perfectly serene, her acceptance a rare and lovely thing in the wild.
This candid moment—unforced, unbaited, and utterly peaceful—is what makes Stanley Park so magical. It’s a little reminder that if you sit still and respect their space, the park’s wildlife will sometimes let you into their world, even when they’re just trying to escape the sun.
